Rumbrand
came to under a table in an Amsterdam nightclub one
August night in 1659 during a performance by an innovative musical prodigy
Gerbrand van Hoogstraten den Horst-Gerson, known by his stage name of "Kind
Rots," (roughly translated as "Juvenile Petrification" or "Kid Rock.") The
artist was immediately struck by the juxtaposition of red lipstick, long hair
and scruffy sideburns and insisted on setting up his easel then and there to do
a portrait of the young man, the result of which we see here. |
